Immediate Challenges for President Biden

The new administration is walking into something of a mess. A lot of it is of their own making.

Antifa is proving to be a thorn in both the left and right sides. They spent some of their time today bashing up the Democratic party’s headquarters in Portland. It seemed as if the left was coddling them for much of the summer as they set up autonomous zones and destroyed federal property, but they are not loyal foot-soldiers. They are proving to be unfaithful to anyone but the lord of chaos.

Another caravan has also formed in Central America and is on its way to the southern border.  With such a closely divided congress it is going to be a heavy lift to talk centrists into making unpopular votes. The last few times that amnesty was pushed as an issue it has failed.  I look for this to get pushed under the rug. I don’t think Speaker Pelosi will want to do a lot of talking about it.

Today the President signed an executive order putting the US back into the Paris Climate Accord. This isn’t really anything more than a symbolic gesture at this point. In order for it to have any teeth it needs to get ratified by the senate. President Obama was wily enough to not bring it before the upper chamber because he knew it would fail. Without that though, there wont be any money behind it unless it gets pulled from other already appropriated funds, like President Trump did with the border wall.

I’m sure I am missing plenty of other landmines that are out there.
