The Terrorists that Protect Us
The Capitol riot that happened on Jan 6th has become a useful tool for the democrats. It has justified the use of 25,000 troops, led to the installation of metal detectors, and used as a hammer against Trump supporters. In order to never let a crisis go to waste, the Dems are now proposing new legislation. House Resolution 350 is the “Domestic Terror Prevention Act of 2021.”
The bill has several sponsors. They include Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10), Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (NY-10), Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02), Rep. Don Bacon (NE-01), Rep. Vicente González (TX-15), Rep. Fred Upton (MI-06), Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46), and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL)
The justifications for this monstrosity are full of hyperbole and exaggeration:
“White supremacy and domestic terrorist organizations have no place in America. Rhetoric from the outgoing President and right-wing political leaders have emboldened white nationalist groups to pursue violence as a means to an end. On January 6, we experienced the terror of white nationalism in full display as domestic terrorists attacked our Nation’s Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. This bill would provide federal agencies with the resources they need to keep Americans safe from the threat of home-grown terrorism and strengthen partnerships with state and local law enforcement to combat hateful violence. The Domestic Terror Prevention Act is more important than ever as we work to root out and rid America of this cancer,” said Rep. Vincente González (TX-15).
Included in section three of the legislation is authorization for a Domestic Terrorism Unit. “There is authorized a Domestic Terrorism Unit in the Office of Intelligence and Analysis of the Department of Homeland Security, which shall be responsible for monitoring and analyzing domestic terrorism activity.”
Worrisome is the intent to “monitor” activity. Will the same powers that monitor foreign terrorists be brought to bear on what is defined as “domestic” terror? That would include the CIA and NSA. It is illegal for the federal government to spy on its own citizens, but there are ways around that. Allied countries can be enlisted gather the intel, and then share it with us. This neatly gets around the letter, but not the spirit of the law.
This Terrorism Unit is also tasked with providing a report within the first six months. The report has to include “an assessment of the domestic terrorism threat posed by White supremacists and neo-Nazis, including White supremacist and neo-Nazi infiltration of Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies and the uniformed services.”
Virtually any act by those labeled as “on the right” is interpreted as white supremacy. The military is much more conservative than the rest of society. This is understandable because those who cherish our country’s freedoms tend to serve it. This only guarantees that the report will almost certainly be an indictment of our armed forces.
This bill is an insult to all those who serve and should never see the light of day. Its only purpose is to denigrate and will splinter our forces.
