Iran: Sure We Are Doing Nuclear Stuff, But Not That Stuff
Well that seals it. If they say they aren’t doing anything nefarious with their uranium enrichment, that should be good enough for us. From The Times of Israel:
Iran’s nuclear activities do not mean that it is seeking to build an atomic bomb, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Friday, according to Iranian media reports.
Meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara, Zarif claimed Tehran does not view nuclear arms as a tool for security.
After all, Iran wouldn’t lie would they?
Iran on Monday rejected U.S. accusations that the highest levels of Iranian leadership have armed Shia militants in Iraq with armour-piercing roadside bombs, a day after U.S. military officials in Baghdad said they had traced the weapons to Tehran.
“Such accusations cannot be relied upon or be presented as evidence. The United States has a long history in fabricating evidence. Such charges are unacceptable,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini told reporters.
The deadly and highly sophisticated weapons are known as “explosively formed penetrators,” or EFPs, which have killed more than 170 troops from the American-led coalition. Three senior military officials in Baghdad said the “machining process” used in the construction of the deadly bombs had been traced to Iran.
My fear is this claim made by Iran will be presented by the new administration as justification to re-enter the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that was hammered out by the Obama team. That plan was never fully revealed to the American public.
Senior Iranian officials are warning the Trump administration about disclosing secret deals related to the nuclear deal that have long been hidden from the public by the Obama administration, according to recent comments that prompted pushback from senior sources on Capitol Hill.
Iran’s warning comes on the heels of a Washington Free Beacon report disclosing that former national security adviser Michael Flynn had been pushed out of office partly due to his intention to release these sensitive documents to the American public.
Also remember that the Obama team manufactured a false narrative and amplified it using their own echo chamber.
According to writer David Samuels, Rhodes oversaw a “war room” whose task was to sell the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to Congress ahead of crucial votes last fall that failed to kill the agreement.
“In the spring of last year, legions of arms-control experts began popping up at think tanks and on social media, and then became key sources for hundreds of often-clueless reporters,” Samuels wrote.
“We created an echo chamber,” he quoted Rhodes as admitting. “They were saying things that validated what we had given them to say.”
There is also evidence that the Iran deal was being worked outside of government channels during the Trump presidency.
In 2018, Kerry admitted meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif “three or four times” to discuss Obama’s signature nuclear deal with Iran that Trump ripped up.
“What Secretary Kerry has done is unseemly and unprecedented,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in reaction to the news. “This is a former secretary of state engaged with the largest state sponsor of terror.”
Add to all of this that a lot of the same players from the Obama administration have been recycled into Biden’s team. Based on the joint history of both sides of the Iran deal, I don’t trust anyone in charge to faithfully put America first.
