The Democrats don’t really want to provide relief for Americans with the virus legislation. They want a club to use against Republicans in the press. By including things that make the left drool, but makes the rest of the country wretch, they can guarantee that it won’t make it through the narrowly divided senate.

Among the poison pills is a federal 15 dollar minimum wage hike, that has been shown to kill jobs and benefits. It sounds good to the people making minimum wage, but there aren’t that many people out there. You also have to think about the people that make 15 bucks an hour now, which is above the minimum wage. What did you just to to their labor market? Their experience and training is worth as much as much as the fries you get at a fast food chain.

This price fixing of the labor market has an added benefit. The demand for illegal immigrants that get paid off the books will skyrocket. Why pay a citizen 15 bucks an hour to pick vegetables, when you can get it done for pennies on the dollar?

Another grenade that they want in the bill is amnesty. They aren’t going for the whole hog right away, but it is a fairly good sized bite:

The group of House Democrats, led by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, want to include an amnesty for at least five million illegal aliens who consider themselves “essential workers” and who are recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programs.

Amnesty has been promised by the president, but it is going to take a lot bigger fight to get through congress. It will never fly as a rider to supposed “must pass legislation.”

There will of course be things in the bill that sound good to the masses though. Checks to households for 2000 dollars is a good club to beat up the people who are against the dirty tricks hidden in the minutia,

It is obvious that they aren’t serious about getting help to the people that need it. They just want to be able to say that the evil Republicans are starving the American People.
