Even China is Taking Shots at CNN
The Global Times, which is a website run by the Chinese state media, made fun of CNN today for making a geographical error. They apparently put a pin in the wrong spot (Global Times link) on a map.
Chinese and overseas internet users hit social media on Friday to mock CNN for misidentifying Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region by locating it instead in a small town of the same pronunciation in South China’s Guangdong Province during a live show featuring so-called “human rights concerns.”
I thought it was remarkable that the Chinese would bother calling out one of their biggest fans. CNN has been accused in the past of being a mouthpiece for the red regime. In fact they have literally taken news straight from Global Times and regurgitated it. Here is the link to the CNN article, but if you don’t want to click it, here is the headline: “Chinese state media claims country’s navy is not affected by coronavirus.”
I don’t know how you can run that headline and feel good about yourself as a media company. China makes all kinds of claims that don’t deserve repeating, Like the Uighurs are not in internment camps, just vocational schools.
I am not getting my hopes up that CNNs love affair with communism is over though. They will take their ribbing in jest, and then go to the back room and make sure their Chinese news feed isn’t coming in garbled for some reason.
