Apparently on Monday some House Democrats sent a letter to President Biden requesting that our nuclear weapons not be controlled by one guy. They want to make war by committee instead:

Nearly three dozen House Democrats on Monday called on Biden to relinquish his sole authority to launch nuclear weapons, in the latest appeal to reform the command-and-control structure so that no single person can initiate a nuclear war.

“While any president would presumably consult with advisors before ordering a nuclear attack, there is no requirement to do so,” the letter adds. “The military is obligated to carry out the order if they assess it is legal under the laws of war. Under the current posture of U.S. nuclear forces, that attack would happen in minutes.”

I am no fan of President Biden, but this is too much. We already have a government that has been infiltrated by if not Chinese spies, then at least by their sympathizers. What if one of them could be inserted into the process with a veto vote. Wouldn’t the chicoms love that. It would pretty much hamstring the entire policy of mutually assured destruction that has kept the bombs in the ground for quite a while.

It would also change a lot of operational procedures that are in effect and being executed on a daily basis. Being a former dooms day plane pilot, I know a little bit about it. None of the process is cheap, and changing it would take a lot more than just making a declaration. Most of the people in DC have no idea of the size and depth of our strategic forces.

This is bigger than just President Biden though and they know it. If they can establish a precedent here than they can hamstring republican presidential warmongers as well. That is their real aim. And with everyone knowing that the president is feeble, it seems like a good call. Only they wont want to let go of the power if they get it.
