The general apoplexy of the Washington DC ruling class continues apace. They are continuing the scolding of Texas and Mississippi for relaxing the unconstitutional restrictions that have been in place for almost a year. Dr. Fauci who has the spine of a cuttlefish jumped into the action yesterday.
“The good news is we have vaccines coming online. You see the curve of infections coming down,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“But we have reached a bit of plateau where the deflection isn’t going straight down the way it was,” he said, adding, “I would advise the people of Texas and Mississippi to just abide by the public health measures we talk about all the time.”
In other words, ignore your less than mentally capable leaders and keep doing what we have been telling you. And of course, the paragon of intellect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez put in her one cent worth on twitter:
93.2% of Texans aren’t fully vaccinated.
The state just endured one disaster worsened by selfishness + denial of basic science, and now conditions are being set for another.
Repealing the mask mandate now endangers so many people, especially essential workers & the vulnerable. https://t.co/3lntlh7zxH

The comments below her post are filled with adoring fans who try to shame Texas by pointing out that AOC flew in to help with storm relief. Good on her. I don’t want to take away from that, but she has been known to take photo op trips to Texas before to benefit herself:
Such a powerful photo of @AOC crying over a parking lot. Good acting. #BuildTheWall#IllegalImmigrationhttps://t.co/EorZk9yV7v@LouderwCrowder pic.twitter.com/SyYgmgd1pU

Yes, that empty lot was soul crushing. So we shouldn’t forget that she is always willing to jump onto an emotional train to get a few points.
Regardless of what the ruling class is saying, Texas and Mississippi are doing the right thing. Emergency powers given to governors are not only supposed to be temporary, they are probably illegal as well. The constitution does not have an emergency powers clause. The states themselves can implement their own laws, as long as they don’t contradict the constitution, including the Bill of Rights. So many of these assumed emergency powers are on shaky grounds.
What we need to start watching for now is the next emergency. Now that they have seen how many rights and freedoms the American public will return to the government, it is going to be awfully tempting to use something like this again. We shouldn’t give up so easily next time.
