A couple of days ago, America was exposed to the oh so painful plight of an incredibly loaded royal couple. They were interviewed by an incredibly loaded talk show host. And somehow, despite all of the billions of dollars of worth between them all, racism crept in and showed its ever present head.
Now to be honest, I didn’t know who Prince Harry or Meghan Markle were. Some may say that I live under a rock, but it is a comfortable rock. Would I be wrong if I thought they were related to the Queen of Latifah? I will never understand the infatuation with royalty of any type, especially here in America. But I digress.
The mention of race has the media swooning even more for the uber privileged couple. Because, you see, even at the top of the elite society, they can still be held down by the man. Here is a quote from a fawning article at Buzzfeed:
The Duchess and Duke of Sussex, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, revealed in a blockbuster interview on Sunday how the royal family had “concerns and conversations” about how dark her son Archie’s skin would be and how the family didn’t speak out against British tabloid’s racist coverage of Meghan.
There were concerns about the brownness of the baby. From there you are meant to make the jump to race. And its just another small hop unconscious bias. That is the programming we have been subjected to for the last few years. Of course they had it rough. I mean if you don’t have to work, or feed yourself, or do a hundred other things that the rest of us have to do, you get time to identify the real demons arrayed against you.
And here are some more unconscious bias points against me. I didn’t pick out that Markle was mixed race when I saw her in a picture attached to the article at Breitbart. It wasn’t until I started reading that it was pointed out. It was then that I realized my sin.
In any case, the point is, it was racist. There you have it. The claim has been made, move past it. Now our betters in the elite media get to pick up the bucket full of racism and run with it. So that is what Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo at CNN did.
Discussing the reactions to the joint interview with Markle and her husband Prince Harry, Cuomo said, “Why is the right coming after Meghan Markle? I thought they were about anti-elitism. I thought they were about 1776 again. Why are they coming after her for saying that the Royals didn’t like the shade of the baby? Why doesn’t the kid have any standards? Why would she lie? What does this do for her? What does this do for her husband?”
Lemon said, “They’re not willing to believe the racism or racist part of it. What does it say about the people who are coming after her? And there are a lot of people who are, a number of people out there coming after her. They’re doing it because they want to be relevant.”
But if we parse what Cuomo said closely we can see what is happening. The questions he asks reveal the truth of the entire spectacle, “Why would she lie? What does this do for her?” It is obvious. It establishes her victimhood. Now when people point at her and say that she didn’t do anything at all to earn what she has, her supporters can say “But racism!” She may be loaded, and privileged, and spoiled, but she is a victim dammit.
So we have established that brown is bad, and if you are not white you are a victim. We can easily look around for other examples to prove our point. Why not look at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas? His skin color seems to be darker than even Markle’s. Here is a quote from George Takei, who was a member of the cast for Star Trek, on Justice Thomas:
A few fans have written wondering whether I intended to utter a racist remark by referring to Justice Thomas as a “clown in blackface.”
“Blackface” is a lesser known theatrical term for a white actor who blackens his face to play a black buffoon. In traditional theater lingo, and in my view and intent, that is not racist. It is instead part of a racist history in this country.
I feel Justice Thomas has abdicated and abandoned his African American heritage by claiming slavery did not strip dignity from human beings.
So in this case, Justice Thomas’s skin may be black, but he isn’t really black. He is just a white guy with black paint on. This is the reason Clarence Thomas is ignored during Black History Month. He doesn’t further the narrative. In other words, it isn’t convenient that Clarence Thomas doesn’t tow the racist demagogic line so he is not relevant. If there wasn’t a double standard, there wouldn’t be a standard I guess.
