There are ton of articles and opinion pieces out there talking about the new election law in Georgia. Much of it is hyperbole. The left and the media (I know, same thing) have been pushing major corporations to come out and denounce the law. Coca-Cola and Major League Baseball have done just that. So, why are they so breathless over the whole thing? Its going to make fraud more difficult.
We all saw the obvious fraud that occurred in the 2020 presidential election. Georgia’s examples were a lot more in your face than most other localities. This is where election workers sent poll watchers home for the night and preceded to pull ballots from under a table and count them multiple times.
Of course, this was happening during the unexplained pause that occurred in several swing states at the same time. I argued in another post that this time was spent determining how many votes they needed to overcome the lead of President Trump.
Georgia was also they key in making sure that the Senate had an even split between Republicans and Democrats. Biden would never get a chance to get his agenda through congress without that. With a 50 50 split, Kamala Harris gets to pass the tie breaking vote for the Democrats. With that, they can pass budget bills through reconciliation, and it is possible they could get rid of the filibuster. None of this would have been possible without massive fraud in Georgia. Adding the voter ID measure makes it difficult to serve up the same fraud stew they did in 2020.
There is more at stake than just Georgia though. Getting this law passed and having it survive legal challenges is a signal to the rest of the country. Many states are pushing new election integrity measures following the 2020 fight. That is why the “For the People Act” is a priority for the Dems at theĀ federal level. Washington lefties need to get it passed to strip individual states of the power to run their own elections. That would make what the states are doing moot.
And that gets back to killing the filibuster. Senator Manchin may be the only guy holding this up. But if he stands his ground and the filibuster remains intact, it is going to be a lot harder to pull off another steal, and everyone knows it. That is why they are all acting like we just slapped their puppy.
