Yesterday Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was on MSNBC talking about the voting legislation that is now in front of the senate. The bill, HR1, was passed through the house on a party line vote last month. The misleading title of the bill is the “For the People Act” but it should be called the “For the Cheaters Act” because it cements into place many of the practices that allowed massive amounts of fraud during the 2020 election.
Here are a few of the provisions:
- Automatic voter registration for 16-year-olds
- Ending voter ID requirements
- Legalizing ballot harvesting
- Allows the Justice Department to demand the removal of social media posts
- Giving felons the right to vote
- Redistricting Conducted Through An “Independent Commission”
And perhaps most importantly, it removes authority from the states to conduct their own elections, because this would be federal law.
That is the point that has Schumer up in arms the most. This is at Breitbart:
Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated that if Democrats can’t come to a bipartisan agreement on voting rights legislation “everything will be on the table to get it done.” And that one of the pieces of leverage he has for Democratic senators is that if Democrats don’t block some state election laws, “the chances of our caucus retaining the majority and people who are up for re-election like Kelly and Warnock winning is greatly diminished.”
When he says that “everything will be on the table” he means killing the filibuster in the Senate. That is the only thing keeping the Democrats from sweeping away the republic right now. If they kill the filibuster (which I wrote about), then they get HR1, so they can take elections from the states, then they can pack the supreme court, and finally guarantee one party rule. Thus ending the great experiment of our country.
If they don’t kill it, they will most likely lose at least one house of congress in 2022 because of the way they have governed so far. So this is their only chance until they can moderate and become popular again. I am not sure how likely that is, so this is a do or die moment for them.
