This is not going to end well. If you haven’t seen it yet, one of the jurors on the trial has been yapping about his activism. He is saying things that might just help overturn the very rapid convictions against Derek Chauvin. This is at The Daily Wire:
Brandon Mitchell, a juror during former police officer Derek Chauvin’s murder trial, encouraged black activists to “spark some change” through jury duty.
Mitchell has done a string of media appearances since the jury he was on found Chauvin guilty of murdering George Floyd. In an appearance on the “Get Up! Mornings” show with host Erica Campbell, Mitchell suggested that jury duty was an avenue to fight for social change, similar to voting.
It sure does sound like he was biased going into the trial. To make matters worse, they have found photos of him at a get out the vote rally. His attire kind of puts into question whether he was unbiased or not.
Chauvin’s lawyer has already asked for a new trial based on jury misconduct. His claim is that they were not really isolated from the news, and that they felt pressure to find a guilty verdict. There is ample evidence on video. Maxine Waters was captured saying that they needed to be more confrontational if there wasn’t a guilty verdict. Even slow Joe weighed in saying that he hoped the jury reached the “right verdict.” He said that he could speak because he knew the jury was sequestered. But what if they weren’t really?
The presiding judge even weighed in on the furor surrounding the trial.
“I’ll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result on this whole trial being overturned,” Cahill said.
Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a clear path through this. The easiest and most tempting way would be to make sure the verdicts stay in place. I don’t think that is the right way though. The jury that sat through this would have been in fear of their lives, had they not found the “right verdict.” That should be enough for a mistrial right there. The same would be true for any jurors going forward. I don’t think Chauvin can get an unbiased trial.
There is at least one group of people doing well over this whole mess. the press. This is easy headline gold for them. I think they are worse than lawyers in times like this.
When you see that a very lalrge portion of the chattering class in this country marxists and ordinary reporters saw this trial as a must convict to right perceived wrongs to a racial group, you know that a verdict based solely on the facts will be impossible. This makes a mockery of the justice system whether he is guilty of murder or not guilty.
Spot on. Not only are they hell bent on righting a perception, it is a false one at that. Justice doesn’t interest these people. And now that they have slain one demon, we can expect to see more.
In many ways this is worse than a, ‘OJ 2.0’, monkey trial. In this case an innocent Police officer doing his job, under extreme duress was convicted by an ‘unbalanced trembling jury’.
OJ’s ‘impartial jury’ gave him a sweet deal as well.
