I found this nugget on Sputnick News, a Russian government linked news site. Apparently, some scientists have been poking around the Chernobyl nuclear exclusion zone. The area surrounding the accident site is still radioactive. That didn’t stop some of them from gathering apples and making some nuclear moon shine.
Authorities in Ukraine have seized some 1,500 bottles of alcoholic beverage made from apples grown in the vicinity of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the site of one of the worst nuclear disasters in history.
According to the BBC, a UK-bound shipment of the Atomik “artisanal spirit” was taken by officers from a truck at a distillery in the Carpathians, with the drink’s manufacturers, the Chernobyl Spirit Company, saying they had “no idea” why it occurred.
Artisanal Spirit they call it. I’ll bet it has some spirit. The shipment was stopped because of a confusion around excise stamps, not because it came from a nuclear accident site.
The scientists say that they want to sell the atomic nectar to help people that were victims of the accident. The ability to get hammered off of some glowing apple juice is just a side benefit I guess.
