The Chinese mouthpiece, The Global Times, has published an article decrying the US using the UN as a pulpit to expose the situation in Xinjiang. The United States, Britain, and Germany have gathered to discuss the genocide of the Uighurs with the UN body.
Hua noted that the US’ attempt to gang up with Britain and Germany to use the UN’s venues to hype Xinjiang-related topics reminds people of a similar farce staged by the former US representative to the UN Kelly Craft. In January, Craft abused her power to sneak into the UN Hall and have her talks with some students from the Taiwan island recorded.
They accuse the US of producing a “self staged political performance” in front of the international audience. They even resort to calling the three nations “gang members” and claim that most nations will not be fooled.
In an attempt to distract readers they also engage in a little what-aboutism against the US. Hua Chunying is a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry and he had this stone to throw:
The US ignored the fact that it has killed millions of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, and made numerous people homeless. It is hypocritical for it to rack its brains to tell lies on human rights issues related to China’s Xinjiang, Hua said.
I guess we can just move past the good natured, lovable panda bear, Moa Zedong and the joys he wrought.
China has been trying to deflect from the atrocities it is committing in Xinjiang for years, despite all of the evidence. US companies, like Nike, that have been doing business with China are starting to feel some remorse for their entanglement in their pocketbooks.
All of this is well and good, but I wonder what the real story is. The American people are by and large a moral society, which explains a profit loss for companies doing business with a despotic regime. We will take our money elsewhere. But I also know that much of the ruling class in Washington has been bought and paid for by the communists. So is all of this theater by the administration meant for us as well?
